It is crucial that you follow these restrictions in order to achieve accurate results from your thermal scan.
Digital thermal imaging with infrared thermography cameras record radiant heat waves that come to the surface of the skin. When there are problems under the surface, our bodies produce heat. This happens when there is the presence of disease, inflammation from a recent injury, or when the body begins to increase blood flow to an area to fight off infection.
Prior to the examination you will be asked to fill out a thorough breast health history form. You will be required to remove all upper body clothing. Then, you will acclimate to a 68 degree room temperature for 15 minutes before the exam. After acclimation, a series of thermal images will be taken.
There is no compression on the breast or any area of the body. The procedure is pain free and safe. To protect your privacy, the number of people involved in the procedure will be limited. The room air may feel cool on your body as it adjust to room temperature before scanning. The camera does not emit radiation of any kind.
Results are usually available within 1 week. While participation in a thermal imaging early detection program can increase your chance of detecting and monitoring breast disease, it is still not a 100% guarantee of detection. Positive thermography findings are 10 times more important than a positive family history for developing cancer.
